Opportunities at Western Medical Science

Hi,   I was accepted into Western medsci and I was wondering if anyone knew how competitive it is to find research positions and coop? Is it generally easy, or is it really competitive? Does everyone manage to find a coop/research position?

  1. How the hell is anyone supposed to know whether “everyone” gets research positions? Word of advice. Med schools don’t care about research positions because everyone applying has them. All you pre-meds have the exact same profile. That’s why someone I know who is a musician got an interview and not others who had better grades than him. You want to stand out? Do something unique. They get thousands of applications from people like you in typical pre-med programs with nothing but academics, hospital volunteering, and research experiences on their resume.

  2. You’re joking, right? Even MSc/PhD students are struggling to find research positions and you think some random undergrad is going to get one with a barebones understanding of science?

  3. There are a lot of research opportunities available through work-study (I know several people who said it was easy to get even in/after first year) etc.

Also look into applying to the scholar’s electives program if you’re really interested in research.
