Does playing an instrument appeal to UBC?

If I’m in the arts/honour level orchestra at my school and take 1-2 hr lessons outside school, will it appear I’m all rounded? Along with some community service?

Honestly, I don’t understand why sports seems to be more preferred than music. There’s no season in music, so we practice for at least 2-3 hours until we get exhausted every single day, and we still need to show up on early mornings a couple of times every week. We do have competitions, and we never let our skill level lower than the day before. What’s the difference between putting down “violin” and “volleyball”?
And yes, there is teamwork. We need to agree on the bowings, and make sure we are adjusted to 25 other people as much as we can.

  2. I think the idea of UBC preferring sports is a total myth. Seriously, you are O.K. as long as you have decent extracurriculars – whether they are sports, music or whatever.
